Acne Treatment

Acne Vulgaris commonly known as Acne or Pimple is a skin disorder that affects the skin’s oil glands. The small holes that are present in our skin consist of oil glands under them. These oil glands prepare an oily substance called “sebum”. The pores and glands are connected by roots like pipes called follicle.

The sebum produced in the glands find its way out through follicle which is used to remove dead cells. In the condition of acne the follicle path get closed and sebum get deposited inside the skin which later get infected by bacteria named Proprionibacterium. And causes spelling with red spotted acne, the enzymes present in bacteria convert the sebum into fatty acids that are highly inflammable and paining to the skin.

Types:

According to National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAM S), there are different stages and conditions in which acne or pimples are categorized:

• Whiteheads. These are pimples that stay under the surface of the skin.

• Blackheads. These pimples rise to the skin’s surface and look black.

• Papules. These are small pink bumps that can be tender.

• Pustules. These pimples are red at the bottom and have pus on top.

• Nodules. These are large, painful, solid pimples that are deep in the skin.

• Cysts. These deep, painful, pus-filled pimples can cause scars.

Cause:

According to experts certain factors that can cause acne disorder are:

  • Change in hormones during teenage years.
  • Hormonal changes during pregnancy.
  • Typical medicines.
  • Heredity (Parental)
  • Oily makeup
  • Starting or stopping birth control pills.

Stress and very little rest in a day also make the condition worse.

Beware of Myths:

There are many misconceptions related to how to treat acne some are:

  • Acne development cannot be prevented by any way.
  • Acne is not caused by poor hygiene, sweating or not cleaning the infected area.
  • Acne is not caused by diet imbalance.

Dermatologists or skin doctors prescribe the following steps to treat the pimples. The treatment and medication level may vary with severity of the disorder.

The main aim of the treatment is to make oil and dirt out of the pores to reducing inflammation. Some methods to be involved in daily routine for the treatment of acne are:

  • Clean skin gently. Using mild cleaning product as much as you can in a complete day.
  • Avoid touching your infected skin area. Do not pinch, prick the acne as it can increase the infection and can left scars or dark spot on your skin.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sun.
  • Shampoo your hair frequently to keep them clean. Keep them away from your face even when you sleep.
  • Avoid extreme stress if possible. Practice exercise, meditation, and counseling if stress is extreme.
  • Get physical exercise regularly.
  • Don’t smoke.
  • Eat regular, healthy meals, including plenty of fruit, vegetables and grains, limit food high in fat, sugar or salt.
  • Drink plenty of water regularly.

Acne or pimple can cause lots of distress so do not hesitate to talk to professional or dermatologist. Taking complete treatment with other precautions can eradicate the problem of acne.
